Pilates for Back Pain & Injury Recovery

Pilates has a long association with careful, controlled movement for sensitive backs — and how it's taught matters enormously. What shapes our approach at P.Pilates Molito is physical therapy: our head instructor, Dek Noriega, is a degree-holding physical therapist who has taught Pilates since 2013, and our team includes clinical Pilates specialists who think about joints and load the way therapists do.

That background shows up in the details: we ask about your history before your first session, start you where your body actually is, choose spring settings that support rather than strain, and progress by how you respond — not by a fixed syllabus.

One honest note: we are a movement studio, not a medical clinic, and Pilates is not a treatment or a cure. If you have an active injury, significant pain, or a diagnosed condition, please consult your doctor or physical therapist first — then bring their guidance to us, and we'll build your practice around it.

Who it’s for

  • People with a cranky, tired back from desk work who want to move with supervision.
  • Anyone cleared by their doctor or PT to begin gentle, guided exercise.
  • Post-rehab clients bridging the gap between therapy discharge and normal training.
  • Bodies that found generic fitness classes too fast, too loaded, or too anonymous.

What to expect

  • Questions first: your history, what aggravates things, what your clinician has said.
  • Supported positions and spring-assisted movement — the apparatus is gentler than mat work for many backs.
  • Slow, honest progression measured by how you feel, session to session.
  • Clear communication — tell your teacher anything, any time, mid-exercise included.

We recommend starting with private sessions so your teacher can work one-on-one with your body — rates are on the pricing page. When you're both confident, beginner group classes are a lovely next step.

Good questions

Is Pilates good for back pain?

Many people with sensitive backs find carefully taught Pilates genuinely helpful for strength, control, and confidence in movement — and research broadly supports supervised exercise for common back complaints. But every back is different: check with your doctor first, and we'll teach to their guidance.

Should I start with a private or a group class?

With a history of back trouble, start private. Your teacher learns your body without the pace of a group, and you graduate to group classes when it genuinely serves you.

What should I tell you when I book?

Everything relevant: diagnoses, surgeries, what movements bother you, and anything your doctor or PT has advised. It goes privately to your teacher and shapes your whole session.
